About WIDS

Located in Wuhan, the largest city in Central China, the Wuhan Institute of Design and Sciences (WIDS) is an important research and education institution in China. It boasts the largest number of undergraduate and graduate students in the world.

Founded in 2004 and renamed the Wuhan Institute of Design and Sciences (WIDS) after the approval by the Ministry of Education in 2015, it has developed into an institute with a focus on art and multidisciplinary integration.

WIDS is committed to cultivating high-quality art professionals with an innovative spirit aswell as training talent through applied learning, developing innovative entrepreneurship skills and hands-on capabilities and employment competitiveness.

Covering an area of more than 700 acres, its main campus is located beside Tangxun Lake. WIDS boasts excellent teaching and living facilities, includinga modern teachingbuilding, laboratory building, library, art gallery, pottery museum, gymnasium, student apartment, canteen andsupermarket, with a total construction area of 250,000 square meters.

WIDS also boasts advanced wood, metal technology, printing and dyeing, 3D printing, sludge model, jewelry craft, motion capture, and food technology laboratories. Also, there are studios for animation, digital imaging, and stop- motion animation studio as well as a black box theater.

WIDS consists of nine colleges: the Jackie Chan Film and Media School, School of Fashion, School of Environmental Design, School of Public Art, School of Food and Biological Engineering, Business School, School of Information Engineering, School of Nursing, and the School of Nursing Marxist.

The employment rate of graduates has stabilized at about 93 percent with some majors reaching 100 percent. Covering an area of 8,000 square meters, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center for College Students mainly functions in three aspects: entrepreneurial incubation, entrepreneurial training, and entrepreneurial consultation. Any students with entrepreneurial pursuits can use it for free and a number of them have succeeded in starting their business creating both economic and social benefits.
